The squeeze All poor aspire to be middle-class. They did in the seventies
when factory worker parents took out a mortgage on a bungalow. They did not
aspire to be stinking rich just respectably wealthy. They would be respected
rather than rough, tough, riffraff. They would be comfortable, safe, secure.
They would be middle-class. They would be accepted and acceptable. The dream
fell through when her ex left her pregnant, he spent the rest of his life on a
council estate. He got his commupance. Moving on, the oil and gas price rises
got me thinking that it was not just the poorest who would be squeezed but also
the middle-class folk who depend more on their cars than those who don’t work.
So, will the middle classes survive inflation? I fear they will be absorbed
into the working class. They will loss most of their wealth. The working class
will be underclass. As for the super rich they will weather the economic storm,
which will dent 96 percent of the population. Long live 4 percent
