Selective empathy By this I mean limited empathy or conditional empathy
as empathy is not unconditional. Mother’s talk of
unconditional love from their sprogs. There is no such concept as
unjudgemental empathy. We empathise with those you don’t judge, who we deem as
like as: from the same cultural, ethnic, social and religious background. I am
guilt of it, I empathise with the disabled, mentally ill and working class.
Then there are diseases that are deserving of empathy e.g. cancer, Dementia,
anything physical. Less Deserving diseases such as breakdowns, depression and
psychosis dare not speak their name. Yet the suffering of the mentally ill is
more lonely and terrifying than those deserving of sympathy. You suffer in
silence because of low empathy. Where there is low empathy there is judgement
followed by contempt. Empathy needs to be extended to be all inclusive. By
which I mean those who are slightly different in their intellect and mental
health.
